On 6th June 2012 the Supreme Court of Cassation passed Interpretative Decision No. 2/2010 whereby the Court provided a mandatory for all Bulgarian courts of law interpretation regarding the third-party liability (TPL) insurance. The Decision is very important because of the large number of civil lawsuits initiated by injured persons in traffic accidents against TPL insurers. As a result of this Decision civil courts of laws shall not longer dismiss actions initiated by the injured parties when the guilty injurer has been sentenced by the penal courts of law to pay compensation for the same accident, but in fact no effective payment of the adjudicated amount is made.
